I tried out office life for a brief spell. While not the only thing I took away from the experience but certainly the most exciting thing I learned was to use different coloured pens to create easy coding systems. Sitting at that desk all day was what I imagine prison is like.
During my short reign I used about 40% of my time preparing grant applications and thinking about my business plan for my art business. My "real" work was unaffected and I still had time to kill every single day... I've quite literally never been so under-stimulated in all of my life. They were sad to see me go whereas I felt like I might start lighting fires if I didn't. Small ones, at least to start, but all the same.
Anyway... dealing with the business end of art isn't my cup of tea. For the record, I drink espresso more often than tea. It's not that I am inept at these tasks, I am moderately organized and have a kind of love for numbers that might be illegal in some countries. But it kills me to be sitting here typing, typing, typing, the same damn thing over and over to make all these social networking tools work together. Haha, I mean, "I love you, Free Media!"
Writing is a different story. I can sit and write for a long time. I love putting words together and handy that, I'm trading in the colours and lines for words, tradeswise. And "they" do all say to write what you know so it's not all bad. I know me, and I know my art and there is all this marketing to be done to earn my status at the bank as an Art Dealer, that is an exhibition in itself. It's quite a natural transition to words, really. And it gives me lots of subject matter to share with you, my precious audience.
Now, to the gentle urging from me, to you, to make the social networking work for my bottom line "cuz ain't that what b'ness is all 'bout?"

Grand Opening
The Once-Every-Half-Decade
Studio Tour and Art Sale
| Grand Opening, Saturday May 28, 1413 11th St SW, Calgary, Alberta |
It happens but once in a purple moon but the time is nigh, friends and neighbours!
The Grand Opening of the Once-Every-Half-Decade Studio Tour and Art Sale is a one night only cream-of-the-crop sneak-preview of 200 original contemporary artworks by LJ, available for sale in June 2011*. It's a get it before it's gone opportunity worthy of a paragraph long run-on sentence. And naturally, there will be cheese!
There are sculptures a...nd paintings and practical art, too. I know that's a bit of an oxymoron or riddle, practical and art coexisting. I'm trying to build intrigue here, people. From tiny to large sized and everything in between, and ranging from $10-1000 (cash, debit and credit cards accepted, gst/delivery & installation not included), there's something for everyone. This event is rated "G" for Great, and will be as family-friendly as the annual Zombie Walk, though far less gory and more fragile.
Tell a friend, bring a friend, make a friend on your way to the show and extend the invite. Come as you are (please adorn pants first) or dress as though it were Hallowe'en, spirit points will be awarded. If nothing else, the opportunity to see me costumed out in a civilized fashion is worth stopping in for.
See you Saturday! 1413 11 St SW (search "Modecor" in google maps) Right beside the Galaxie Diner and Kalamata Grocery, both of whom deserve LOUD shout-outs for their support!
*Please don't cry rivers if you can't make it for the opening. You can catch the Open House Saturdays in June or contact me to schedule a private viewing if you're a celebrity and need help to keep the Paparazzi away.
Sample the LJ flavours at the hoarding project on 17 Avenue at 8 St SW or creep my pictures on facebook, their exposure is what they're there for! I am followable/likeable on facebook pages, twitter, blogger and at gmail.com if you have any queries or commentaries: MacLauraJ
